Bedminster Down School

Humanities

INTRODUCTION

At Bedminster Down School our Year 7 and 8 Humanities curriculum has been developed to support GCSE subject knowledge and is designed to cover all the Humanities subjects. Pupils cover a range of topics that develop learner’s geographical skills and knowledge, their understanding and cultural awareness and learn how to study the past events that have shaped the UK today.

Humanities is taught by one teacher who has the responsibility for all areas and rotating subject content for Geography, History and RE.

Humanities supports English in developing your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Further to this Maths is supported through numeracy and geographical skills.

SCHEME OF WORK

Pupils will gain a broad overview of a range of topics (See below). Students will be given the opportunity to consolidate and extend their skills and knowledge and skill through out of hours learning through the use of digital resources like SAM learning, projects and research.

ASSESSMENT

Pupil’s work is assessed regularly. The department uses a combination of formal teacher and peer assessment, so pupils’ progress is regularly monitored and recorded. Regular assessment enables pupils to self-reflect on their learning, so they are well aware on the necessary steps to progress in RE. The department tracks pupil progress using Doddle. Pupils are encouraged to use this site to gain as many skills as possible, both in class time and at home.
