Science Student Progress Support
Student Progress Support – Science – Full Time, permanent, ASAP start
Do you want to teach in a school with
- A whole school behaviour policy that has stopped almost all low level disruption?
- A dedication to improving teaching through a huge amount of optional and tailored CPD?
- A renewed focus on the wellbeing of staff and students?
Bedminster Down School is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and flexible person to join our Science Department as a Student Progress Support staff member (SPS). Whilst many schools now hire ‘Cover Supervisors’ to provide high quality in house cover for absent teaching staff, Bedminster Down School has taken this model further and created a role which is uniquely exciting in the challenges and opportunities that it provides. As an SPS you will work exclusively in the Science department, becoming an integral part of a fantastic team. You will cover the lessons of teachers when they are absent and work in class, alongside experienced teaching staff, to support the progress of every student. You will take part in Science and whole school trips, attend staff and departmental training and feel every bit a member of the Science Department.
The school has been rated as good by Ofsted for the last five years and has a strong reputation in the local area; epitomized by the fact that the school has more than double the number of applications than there are places in Year 7. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and hardworking team, which is always looking to improve. We provide a wide range of professional development opportunities and work hard to support colleagues in becoming the very best that they can be. Our CPD programme allows staff to attend sessions of their choosing, focusing on their unique needs. We even reward staff who actively engage with CPD throughout the year.
We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is exceptional – allowing teachers and cover staff to focus on providing high quality learning opportunities. The pastoral and senior teams ensure that any low level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively, giving teachers and cover staff the chance to spend their work time on delivering lessons which will maximise progress.
We have developed new ways to assess progress and feedback to pupils; as a school and department we are putting more time into planning and differentiation and turning our backs on hours of book marking. Delivering live marking and impact marking strategies allows us to know exactly what our students need to do to progress and target appropriate work to deliver outstanding lessons.
Science is a central part of the curriculum at Bedminster Down School and is highly valued subject by all of our students. Our Science department has a fantastic mix of experienced and newer teaching staff, bringing all the benefits of stability and consistency alongside fresh ideas and vibrancy. We also have an experienced technician who keeps the whole department running smoothly. We are committed to high level outcomes and demand the very best of those we teach, in a forward facing innovative department.
We welcome applicants who are excited by challenge including both teaching and support staff. Our support and development of those new to the education profession is second to none.
